GRAND CANYON 2012 - NEWS FEED
In May 2012 I was invited by the National Park Service to be Artist in Residence at the Grand Canyon National Park. During the residency I lived and worked for a month in a studio apartment South Rim Visitor Centre.
My task was to use ice and paper sculpture to explore and illustrate the natural features of erosion, pattern and form in the Grand Canyon. I had accommodations, studio facilities and free access to a range of support mechanisms within the park in order to facilitate creative research. The residency involved research on daily basis and a day by day blog. My aim was to prepare a body of research material to include drawing, painting, photography, ice sculpture concepts.
Finished works were developed on and exhibited at the Creative Hinckley Gallery at the Atkins Building from 23 November 2012- January 2013. The exhibition was be linked to workshops and events to inform visitors about the Grand Canyon and my experiences whilst living and working there.
